Chapter Eighteen

Chaser

Mallory’s declaration about never wanting to go home niggles at me all the way back to the clubhouse. The caveman side of me says that means she’s all mine. The brother who swore his loyalty to the Devil Demons MC needs her to understand abandoning my club isn’t an option.

Could I fully patch out of the club if I really wanted to? I suppose. If the band takes off and hits it big, my ties to the club could even be a liability.

Does Mallory expect me to leave the club? She hinted at it for sure. She’s got her own dreams of stardom. Fuck knows she’s beautiful, smart, and talented enough to make it big. What kind of asshole would I be to stand in the way of her dreams? Hey, give up your shot to be a movie star and let me drag you back to bumfuck New York to be my old lady. Yeah, real sexy offer.

Behind me, she wraps her arms a little tighter around my middle, squeezing her legs against my hips. Her warmth soaks into my bones. I’m not willing to give her up.

I guide my bike into the parking lot and back it into an out of the way spot. Mallory gets off first and hands me her helmet, leaning over to shake out her hair, an image straight out of every fantasy I ever had as a teenager.

When she finishes, she pins me with serious eyes. “Thank you. I had fun.” Her pretty pink lips curve up. “I liked learning about young Chaser.”

“I don’t know why. He was kind of a wanker.”

She giggles, a sweet sound that chases my earlier doubts away. “Wanker? You must have picked that up from Garrett.”

“Probably.”

“Have a nice joy ride?” My father calls out.

“Yes, actually we did.” I grin at him. “House looked good.”

He raises his eyebrows as he approaches us, the question clear on his face. Not sure what he’s so confused about. I pretty much sat down in front of all my brothers and claimed Mallory’s ass. Why wouldn’t I take her to the house?

“You pack up any of your shit?” he asks.

“No, why?”

He shrugs and glances away.

“You planning to sell the place?” Honestly, I’m surprised he hasn’t done it already.

“Maybe.” He sweeps his gaze over Mallory. “It’s too big for me. You’re not here—”

“Yeah, all right. I’ll go through some stuff while we’re home.”

He grumbles and waves his hand in front of him. “Never mind. Doubt I’ll have time to worry about it between now and next time you’re home.”

With that, he turns and marches back inside the clubhouse.

“Okay then,” I mutter.

“Do you think he’s hoping your mother will return one day? And that’s why he hangs onto the house?”

I open my mouth to answer, doubtful, then think better of it. “Who knows.”

Slinging my arm around her shoulders, I lean in and kiss her cheek. “I had fun with you too. Thanks for going with me.”

“I’d go anywhere with you, Chaser.”
